The safety of our family is very important to me and my husband. Since we both work outside the home, having a good home security system in place is high priority. Today, I am sharing the steps that my family has taken to ensure that my family is safe.
Are we really safe?
While I would like to say the world is getting safer, the fact is it isn’t. Here are a few jaw dropping statistics:
- According to the FBI, home break-in (burglary) is the most common threat to our home.
- Every 13 seconds a home intrusion is committed.
- The highest percentage of burglaries occur during the summer months.
- Homes without security systems are up to 300% more likely to be broken into.
- Insurance agencies can offer discounts up to 20% for auto insurance when a home security system is installed.
During this past holiday season, remember hearing about the numerous porch pirates that would follow the delivery trucks and then take your package? Don’t let this happen to you!
Ring Pro Video Doorbell
My featured product is the Ring Video Doorbell. This product is like Face Time for your front door. It doesn’t matter if you are home or across the country, you are connected to your visitor and can see them in HD video and communicate with built-in two-way speaker. This gives the sense that you are always home and the security of recording an incident, should one happen.
With the built-in motion detection and night vision, I always know when someone is approaching the door or when the kids come home. You can download the app on your smartphone and tablets to receive notifications and get a live view of the camera at anytime.
I have researched competing products for over a year and this is hands down the best one on the market today. Installation was very easy. You don’t have to worry about replacing batteries, as it’s powered by your existing doorbells wires. If you don’t already have a powered doorbell, no worries! There is an option for a battery unit as well. With the Original Ring, you can place it anywhere even if you don’t have existing doorbell wires.
Ring Stick Up Cam
For indoor security, Ring also makes the Stick up Cam. This version also has an HD camera and 2 way audio. How cool would it be to tell the dog to get off the couch while you are away from home or just check in on the kids when out on a date night? This also makes a great nanny cam or baby monitor!
Arlo Pro Security System with Siren
Another system that is completely wireless and even has a built-in siren is the Netgear Arlo Pro. Being wireless, you don’t need to hassle with getting in the attic. The quality is perfect HD. The only downside is having to recharge or replace batteries every several months. This system is also highly recommended by law enforcement.
If you would like to cover multiple entry points and don’t mind running the wires or you have someone handy to do so, I also recommend Lorex. The benefit of a surveillance system, such as this, is the built-in DVR so you have complete control over your recordings without paying a monthly fee.
I hope my review of home security has helped you make a decision to enhance the security of your home or business.
