A few weeks ago, I started a routine with my daughter to help provide her with a more positive attitude in the morning. Unfortunately, she is definitely a glass half empty kind of girl and I desperately want to change that. I recently read the Miracle Morning and got an idea to create a similar practice for my daughter. I have my own miracle morning routine, but it is different than is spelled out in the book. I figured a miracle morning routine for tweens might be just the thing to set my daughter’s day off on the right foot.
I broke out a new journal and set out to create a schedule of tasks that she needed to complete in the morning. I was not sure exactly how things were going to go, but she has really liked the routine and I can definitely tell a difference in her frame of mind. Yoga and meditation are still a works in progress for her and I am sure she will get better with more practice.
Here is what the miracle morning routine for tweens looks like:
6:30 – Wake up & drink a large glass of water
6:35 – Meditate
6:45 – Yoga Routine
7:00 – Journaling
It is nothing fancy, but it has really helped with releasing her negative energy. For the meditation piece, I helped her come up with a few affirmations to help her focus on. Here are a few that she came up with:
I am fearless!
I am smart!
I am creative!
I am determined!
I am brave!
I am a leader!
I am beautiful!
For the journaling, I came up with some of the first prompts and then my daughter asked if she could come up with some on her own. Here are a few that we came up with:
- Write about a quality you have that makes you special. Explain why.
- Write about a time when you did something you were afraid to try. How did you feel afterward?
- When you are feeling confident, what emotions do you experience?
- Write about a person you admire. What qualities do you have in common with this person?
- Write about a time when you felt unstoppable?
In addition to the miracle morning routine, we also use essential oils and I make sure we all eat a healthy breakfast. I also make sure to provide lots of hugs in the morning.
What are some things that you do to ensure that your kids start their day on the right foot?
